Peter Callender, the long serving Scout Leader of 1st Camelsdale Scout Group has been awarded The Silver Acorn for ‘especially distinguished services to Scouting’.
Peter, who joined the Scout Group as a Cub Scout in 1975 was presented with the award by the County Commissioner at the recent district St Georges Day parade, this year held in Weyhill and at the Haslemere Methodist church.
Following his time as a Cub Peter joined the Scout Troop under the leadership of David Campbell where he took part in lots of exciting activities, thoroughly enjoying the many camps. Peter’s passion was football, but in 1988 David asked Peter to join him in running the troop, and he has been there ever since. In 2002 he became the Scout Leader and the troop has benefited greatly and grown under his leadership, with many Scouts gaining Chief Scouts Gold Award. As the senior member of 1st Camelsdale he has also helped oversee the growth of the Scout group into the largest in the district. Peters commits a huge amount of his time to support local Scouting, recognised not only with this award but also by parents and fellow leaders at 1st Camelsdale.
