1st Camelsdale CubsAt Cubs we try to build a foundation of skills that will support our Cubs through their teens and onwards. We want the majority of our programme to be outside and active, as unlike school as it’s possible to be. From lighting fires to learning how to build structures out of poles and ropes, from night hikes to nights under canvas, we focus on adventure and fun in a team-based, challenging way.
An example of our progressive approach is camping – we begin with Cinema Sleepovers in the HQ, sleeping on the floor in sleeping bags on bed-rolls. The next stage is ‘My First Camp’, where Cubs spend one or two nights in tents, either on our own camp-site or at a Scout event. Once our Cubs have experienced camping at this level we invite them to one of our annual Cub Camps, four nights and five days away from home, with a full programme of activities to challenge and develop the children. Summer Camp MenuWe try to eat really well at summer camp and have lots of fresh, tasty and healthy food. Camping is hard work and we have found that if Cubs eat well they relax and enjoy themselves more. One of the suggestions from our Cub forum recently was to give Cubs a say in the meal choices we have on summer camp, so please can you let us know what meals would get your vote. We can’t guarantee you’ll get your exact choices, but we will promise to make the meals that get the most votes.
