Scout Hut
Our current scout hut is ageing to the point of needing replacement. We are currently working on a plan to design, fund and build a replacement hut within the next 3-5 years (2021-2026).
We want the new HQ to be something the community will value so are keen to involve those who use it and those who live near it in our plans.
The first draft designs were shown at the Marley Lane Jo Cox street party event on Saturday 23rd June 2017, from 2-4pm at the Scout Hut, which approximately 30 local people attended. Additional design 'show and tell' sessions for families involved with the scout group were held during the summer of 2018. In total, around 80 people had the opportunity to share their feedback and ideas at these initial engagement events. Read the event materials community_engagement_materials.pdf.
We received lots of useful feedback from both initiatives and have use the design and other suggestions to produce a next set of designs. These were on display in the Scout Hut on Thursday 6th May 2021 when the local elections are being held in the hall. During 2021 we intend to invite scout group members, local residents and other interested parties to see the plans and offer further feedback via a series of more engagement events. We will advertise these sessions on this website and via a poster at the scout hut.
Following these events we will draw up a third set of proposed designs that we will share before hopefully being in a position to submit our proposed plans in the second half of 2021 or in early 2022.
Apart from the decision that the scout hut needs replacing, no other decisions have been taken around the design, usage or wider space outside the hut. We have ideas for these, some our own and some which have come through the initial engagement events, which is what we are seeking feedback on.
If you would like to be added to an emailing list to receive notification of the feedback events, please send an email to [email protected]. Thank you.

Grounds
We are very fortunate to own the land around our hut and hold a 'groundforce' day every year to help maintain the grounds. We also have a woodland management plan to ensure that holly and any dangerous trees are removed.
We are part way through constructing a composting tree bog and in 2019 were successful in applying for planning permission to erect a small wooden cabin on the camping area to provide storage for camping and other equipment as well as an alternative indoor space for scouting activities. For example, if the weather is poor or if we wish to separate the groups into smaller numbers and do different activities with the children and young people. Planning permission was also granted to build a timber fire pit shelter to provide another protected space to complement our programme of outdoor activities.
We would like to extend water and electricity supplies up to the campsite to make things such as washing up easier when we camp (rather than carrying water up from the hall).

Background
In earlier years maintenance of the buildings and grounds was a split responsibility between the Land Trustess and the Scout Group. Work was done on a haphazard basis without consultation and co-ordination between the two groups. These have now been merged into a single charitable body and the Scout Association Trustee Company has been appointed as Land Trustees.
Any work is planned and agreed by our Executive Committee.
